Decatur woman suffers brain injury in hit-and-run

Posted: Updated:

A 25-year-old Decatur woman is being treated at Shepherd Center after being critically injured by a hit-and-run driver in Nashville, Tennessee.

Angela Riley went to Nashville with friends for a bachelorette party. She suffered a traumatic brain injury after being struck by a car while trying to cross a street.

Police arrested 23-year-old Ryan Moy, of Illinois, on charges of felony vehicular assault, leaving the scene and failure to render aid.

An ambulance brought Angela to Atlanta's Shepherd Center last Friday from Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

"Our main goal was to get her to Shepherd Center and we're so glad that she is here," said Angela's father, Joe Riley.
Riley's parents said they are encouraged by Angela's progress, but they know she has a long road to recovery.

"We're going to support her. And do all that we can to get her not only back, but better than back," said Susan Riley.

The family said they have outpouring of supporting, including money, food and phone calls.

"A lot of people that really care and…will just do anything that they can to show you that they really care," said Susan Riley. "We just feel like she is just going to be fine. It's just going to take time."

While Angela suffered a brain injury when her head struck the car's windshield, her parents said that she has no broken bones.

The Rileys say that the response in the Decatur community has been overwhelming. Fundraisers for the family have been held and more are planned.
