MESA, Ariz. -

She was the youngest girl to win a medal at the Global X Games and competed with females more than twice her age. This 12-year-old Mesa girl is a thrill seeking skateboarder.

Alana Smith hits the half-pipe and can board all day. She loves the extreme sport of skateboarding, and that love is exactly what's fueled her to professional competition.

"My dad was mad about mom sneaking me here cause he wanted me to be one of those girlie girl kind of princess and I was nothing like that," says Alana.

Alana is one of the youngest X Game competitors in the extreme sport of skateboarding. She started at 7 years old, and now 5 years later, here she is competing in Barcelona in the Global X Games.

She's the youngest competitor in women's final.

"It feels like I can do anything when I'm skating, at least on my board," says Alana.

Alana and a group of other girls all competed within 15 minutes in four 40-second runs. She is the youngest girl in X Games history to medal.

"I had no idea I got second until the last second. I looked at the board and thought that's not real, that can't be real."

She's already made a name for herself, but this east valley girl can't wait for her next competition in Los Angeles.

"I was hoping by the time I was 15 I would have skated in X Games. But I'm 12. I was in Global X Games and I got second."

Alana says she's been training at Kids That Rip since she was 7, and some day she hopes to compete in the men's X Games.
