Bad weather forces some in NYC to cancel plans

Posted: Updated:

While some business may be have been dismal at the beaches, a lot of people who needed to venture out and keep busy Saturday found things to do – and stay dry.

Memorial Day weekend, the un-official start to summer is officially off to a dreary start.

The chilly wind and rain postponed several beach plans for thousands of people, but a lot of other people tried to make the best of a bad situation.

Windy, wet and raw with gray skies looming -- welcome to Memorial Day weekend.

"I was disappointed. I would like it to be warm," said one New Yorker.

This is a good weekend to think about keeping the heat on, at home.

"It's a good weekend for Netflix and playing with the puppy," added another New York native.

Those who did venture out found that there were still plenty of things to do this weekend.

The New York Aquarium re-opened for the first time since Sandy and yes, the sea lions were also probably wondering, where's the sun?

"It's a surprise for one thing."

No surprise the movie theatres were packed with people.

Retailers throughout the tri-state area were already offering deep discounts this holiday weekend. Many shopping centers are expecting bigger crowds – with the nasty weather.

"This will be a good day for movies and cinema, a good day for indoor activities," added one moviegoer who just finished seeing 'Iron Man 3'.

Michael Germano and his two daughters were trying to keep it all in perspective.

"We can't complain. Places like Oklahoma and all of the other places left and right so, it is what it is. It will warm up at some point. You take the good with the bad," said Germano.

Hopefully a few rays of the good will break through the clouds by Monday.
