Ready for a boost? Chew your juice

Posted: Updated:

You may have juiced, but have you "Chuiced?"  It's the juice you chew, and local health food stores say Chuice is selling like crazy.  So naturally, FOX Medical Team reporter Beth Galvin had to give it a taste.

Chuice is basically everything but the kitchen sink—in a bottle.  It includes 45 different vegetables, fruits, herbs, nuts, and seeds, and when you mix it all together, it's like an explosion of flavor in your mouth.  But first, you've got to get used to chewing your juice.

"The first time I saw it, I was, like, "Okay that's weird," said Shelley Ely, who is now a Chuice believer.

Ely and her friends tried Chuice, and they liked it so much that they're now willing to drive two hours round-trip to Atlanta to buy it.

Chuice is the brainchild of fitness trainer Ladell Hill, who for 25 years has been trying to find a way to mix natural ingredients-- like veggies, fruit, nuts, seeds, and herbs-- all into one bottle.  He said the biggest challenge was getting it to taste good together—and it took a long time.

Hill says his grandfather, a Tennessee farmer, taught him the power of eating raw, fresh food.

"He couldn't read write or drive, but he knew enough to know that these particular properties in the raw plants have some form of benefit for your health," Hill explained.

But, in a world of sippers, why do you have to chew?  Hill says it's the chewing that helps your body release enzymes to digest food.

Chuice is made fresh daily, and it's not pasteurized, so it lasts only about four to five days at a time.  Right now, it's only sold in several Atlanta-area health food stores and gyms.  You can order online in advance and pick it up.

It's designed to be a meal in a bottle, and it will cost you about $8.00 for a two-serving bottle, or about $27 for a half-gallon.

The notion of 'Keeping up with the Jones' is not new, but there is a new pressure coming at you. Peer pressure - whether you're 13 or 33 - is a powerful thing. Now throw in social media and you have what an Atlanta counselor calls 'Keeping up with the Jones' on steroids. And if you're not careful that can get costly.
