NY Officials Oppose New Statue Of Liberty Security Plans

Posted: Updated:

New security plans for the Statue of Liberty are firing up New York officials.

The National Park Service has decided to move security screening to Ellis Island.

Previously, passengers were screened before they boarded the boats at Battery Park.

Sen. Chuck Schumer and NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly say the move is a recipe for disaster.

The Statue of Liberty is set to re-open on the Fourth of July after suffering significant damage after Superstorm Sandy.
