Farther North, Jersey Shore Crowds Lighter Than Normal

Posted: Updated:
SEA BRIGHT, N.J. -

For many people, Memorial Day marks the unofficial start to summer. And businesses down the Jersey Shore are hoping this will be their jumpstart to the season.

On the best weather day of this Memorial Day weekend, beaches in Sea Bright had smaller but loyal crowds.

Some who were enjoying the beach Monday said traffic was lighter than other years. They are happy to be back, FOX's Sharon Crowley reported from Sea Bright.

But Superstorm Sandy has dealt the summer season at some parts of the Jersey Shore a significant blow. Many towns are still struggling to recover.

While some businesses had the money to rebuild in just a few months, other businesses have not been as fortunate.

President Obama and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie tour parts of the shore Tuesday. Business owners and beach goers hope the national spotlight helps give a boost the recovery.
