Summer jobs for teens and tweens

College students are already home for the Summer and high schoolers break is not far behind. For many that means a chance to earn some cash, but finding a Summer Job is not always easy. Wealth Consultant James Studinger offers some tips.

We  make money by solving someone else's problem:

· Could be hired by a regular employer

· Or through creative self-employment

Think out of the box, take something you are good at and use that talent to solve someone else's problems.

Types of problems to solve -

· convenience - reducing their time on task like mowing lawns, picking up laundry/groceries etc

· technical - help someone make videos, arrange digital photos for print books, website design, social media tips…

· manual - lifting and moving things that they can't do

· sales - every business needs to sell more. Is there a local product that you have a market to sell to? For example - farmers market vendor that delivers to homes - do you have people you know that might like to have fresh veggies delivered each week?

Example: One family had kids do chores around the house during the year. In summer they each made a flyer of the things that they felt they were good at and took them to family and friends in the neighborhood.

Use the summer job opportunity to round out the whole experience

· Set goals - how much are you going to make? 1k? 10k?

· Realize the value of improving your skills and perfect your job

· Be professional - always on time and courteous. Communicate well

· Be open to learning - feedback is valuable

· Be persistent - things might not all fall into place on the first go around. Pick yourself up and try again

If can't find a job at all - spend time applying for scholarships - 10+ hours a week
