Friday was Free Prix Day on Belle Isle, but it was just the beginning of an exciting weekend that includes concerts, Indy cars and so much more.

"We've got Plain White T's Sunday and we have Bret Michaels on Saturday, so some great entertainment on the MotorCity Casino Hotel Stage, something for all the family to see here," said Race Chairman Bud Denker.

Millions of dollars have been spent in track improvements and renovations to Belle Isle for this year's Grand Prix, but race organizers feel it's a small price to pay for what this event means to Detroit.

"We brought this race back in 2007 and the mission then and the mission still is to give back to Detroit. This race will bring over $50 million of benefit to our city. That's big time. That's more than the Final Four brought to give an example," Denker said.

"Thousands of volunteers put this on every year, and thanks to the Penske Group, it's been a great success for us," said volunteer Alyssa Trump.

You'll find fans of all sizes watching the cars and some who have been coming year after year to see the racing and everything that comes with it.

What does race fan Vernon Merrell like most about the Grand Prix?

"Just the technology that the cars use, especially the Indy cars, and various different types of cars that will be out here this weekend," he said.

For the first time ever, there will be back-to-back IndyCar races on Saturday and Sunday putting the Motor City on the map for cars once again.
