Southwest Philly Teen, 5-Month-Old Baby Missing

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

"I really think something happened to her. I'm not trying to keep thinking in that way but it's not her to do that. That's my sister and I just want her home," sobbed Diane Laguins.

The entire family is praying for the best. But with each day that goes by, they fear the worst for their loved ones, 17-year-old Jerrica and her 5-month-old baby girl, Paris.

They've been missing since Thursday.

"It's painful. It's tearing us a part," Diane said.

The family says Jerrica left her home on the 600 block of 35th Street in Southwest Philly around 8 p.m. with her baby and a friend. She was going to the boy's house and expected to return home that night.

But around 11:30 p.m., the friend apparently called Jerrica's family saying he walked her and the baby to 40th and Market, where they would catch the subway to his house. He said he rode his bike home to meet them there but claims Jerrica never showed up.

"Jerrica is naive to the streets. She's not really familiar with the streets," says Jerry, the girl's father. He feels something isn't right.

"This is all out of character for her," he said. It's not like Jerrica to up and disappear, "She cuts up in school every now and then, but she's a good girl overall. She's not troublesome," said Jerry.

Police consider this a runaway case and don't believe Jerrica is in any danger. Still the family is pleading for the public's help.

Her sisters, Diane and Tiffany, both agree, "She probably does not have Pampers or milk. The baby is probably scared, hungry and crying. Jerrica loves her child more than she loves herself. If Jerrica wanted to run away, she wouldn't have taken her child with her."

The family hopes police will consider looking at surveillance video from SEPTA cameras at 40th and Market to see if Jerrica ever made there. They hope the video holds some clues.

If you've seen Jerrica and/or her baby, Paris, call Philadelphia Police.
