BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – U.S. District Court Judge Denise J. Casper on Wednesday postponed opening statements in the murder trial of reputed gangster James "Whitey" Bulger until next Wednesday at the earliest.
An additional 100 potential jurors are being assembled this afternoon. Casper said she wants to give prosecutors and the defense more time to review juror questionnaires.
Phase one of the selection process began Tuesday at US District Court in Boston. The candidates are being brought in a few hundred at a time. They got to meet Bulger as Judge Casper introduces the prosecution and defense.
Those who make the first cut will be questioned by the prosecution and defense. The biggest challenge is finding 18 people who can spend the entire summer hearing the case.
Jurors will not be sequestered, but they are prohibited from talking about the case when they go home.
