History
The Chicago Salvation Army established National Doughnut Day in 1938 to help raise money for the needy during The Great Depression, and to honor the Salvation "Lassies"-- who served doughnuts to service members during World War I.

In Chicago, National Doughnut Day is still a fundraiser for The Salvation Army.
