Anne, Victim Of Building Collapse, Remembered

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Loved ones gathered tonight to remember Anne Bryan at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where she was a student.

They waited in a long line stretching down a city block. Friends, community leaders, and even strangers slowly made their way inside the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts to join 24-year-old Anne Bryan's family in a celebration of her life.

A life tragically cut short on Wednesday. When a four story building collapsed on a salvation army thrift store.

Sara Pottenger, friend of the victim offered her description of Anne," She just loved poetry. She loved art. She loved everything. They really showed that tonight."

Several dignitaries, including Mayor Michael Nutter, paid their respects to the daughter of the Philadelphia City Treasurer.

Anne's death is especially difficult for friends like Sara who saw her right before she died.

"It's hard. Just like the day before we seen her, we seen her around school. Since we weren't there when it happened. It's just really shocking."

Anne Bryan would have been returning for her second year at PAFA.

She majored in painting. And her teachers say she was one of the best in class.

According to Al Gury, the Painting Program chair, "She had a very strong work ethic. Which was beautiful to see. She was very excited about being here, about the work she was doing."

"She was eager to be involved," he added, "and it always felt like you were getting energy back from her when you worked with her."

Academy administrators say there's no doubt she made an impact.

According to David Brigham, the President/CEO of PAFA, "We were so happy to have her as a member of the community. She was a very generous person. Learning, striving, but also giving."
