NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Federal authorities say they've seized more than 2,300 pounds of marijuana from a tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of peppers into southern Arizona.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers assigned to the Port of Nogales commercial facility say the 27-year-old driver of the big rig was taken into custody.
His name wasn't immediately released Monday, but authorities say he is from Nogales, Sonora. The man has been turned to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
CBP officers referred the tractor-trailer for an additional inspection and a narcotics detection canine alerted them to the presence of drugs in the shipment.
They say 99 bundles of marijuana were co-mingled with the peppers.
