ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -

1:00 a.m. Thursday, a guy opened an unlocked, sliding door to a ground floor apartment on Woodview Court in Rochester Hills.

"A woman was sleeping on her couch in her apartment complex here in the Hills, and a suspect invaded her house, walked into a sliding glass door that she had open and sexually assaulted her," said Captain Mike Johnson from the Oakland County Sheriff's Department.

It was dark, and the woman did not get a good look at the guy's face.

"The suspect is described as a black male between 5'10" and 6'0" tall. He was wearing all black. We do know that we did have some window peeping complaints in the last couple of days with that same description of a suspect," Johnson said.

A K-9 team picked up a track. The dog indicated the peeper also looked in several other apartment windows.

"It was like one o'clock, and when it was raining out, I just heard all this stomping around, and I heard someone was like clacking their feet and like running around," said Logan Sherrill.

Oakland County Sheriff investigators spoke with the eleven-year-old's family. They also live on a ground floor unit at Woodside Apartments. The family was sacked out, but Logan was awake listening to the rain when he heard the footsteps.

"I knew someone was running, so I went out the front porch, but it was like raining hard, so I just went back inside," Sherrill said.

"Usually when we come out at night and play tennis and stuff, we always see people walking around, so I thought nothing of it."

"He heard some noises in the background. I don't know if it was woods or somebody trying to get in, and then my fiance was sleeping on the couch, and he heard some weird noises, but dismissed it as maybe a bat had flown into the window or something," said Lee Maull. "Who knows if there was somebody peeping in, and like maybe he spooked him when he sat up."

The property owners association in the neighborhood is alerting homeowners and renters to be aware.

"It was reported that someone was peeping in a residence window, and they got the word out to the association, and it was put into newsletters," said Harold Simmons.

If caught, the suspect is facing a criminal sexual assault charge, a 20 year felony, as well as a home invasion charge, also a 20 year felony.

"Obviously, it's very important to lock your doors and windows," Johnson said.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department released a composite sketch of the suspect (included with this story) on Friday. They said the suspect is described as a black male, who is around 40 years old and about 5'10" tall with a medium to dark complexion.
