Fuel spills at Detroit gas station in fuel theft attempt

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Authorities say hundreds of gallons of gasoline were spilled on the pavement and into the sewer at a Detroit gas station after at least one man confronted a fuel tanker driver.

A hazardous materials team was at the Clark station on 7 Mile and Schoenherr early Friday morning. Police say a man tried to pull a fuel hose out of the driver's hand as he was refilling pumps.

Detroit police say they have the suspect in custody. FOX 2's Roop Raj will have much more on this story during FOX 2's Live at 11.

Two men were arrested in the city Wednesday after officers caught them using a siphoning system in the back of a van to steal fuel from a gas station's underground tank. Police spotted the van and a tube stretching into an open tank cover.
