Police: DeKalb indecency suspect could be tied to assaults

Posted: Updated:

DeKalb County police are searching for a suspect involved in an indecent act who could be connected with other crimes.

Officers released a composite sketch of a man they say committed a sexual act while talking to a woman waiting at a bus stop at Covington Highway and Mercer Drive on June 6.

"According to the victim, this individual approached her at the bus stop, attempted to engage her in conversation and when she turned to address him, that's when she noticed that he was committing a sexual act on himself," said DeKalb Polices spokesperson Mekka Parish.

They believe he could also be connected with two attempted sexual assaults at the Marquis Ridge Apartments on Covington Highway in DeKalb County last month. In those cases, the suspect is accused of exposing himself to women and a child after climbing in separate apartments.

The bus stop is located just across the street from the scene of the two previous attacks.

"It was a little more brazen in those particular incidents because he broke into those residences to perform this act," Parish said.

Authorities are also worried because of the aggressive nature of the attacks and say though no one was hurt, they're afraid the man could become violent.

Anyone with information is asked to call the DeKalb County Police Department at (770) 724-7710.
