How Much Is Dad Worth?

It's father's day, and we're celebrating the priceless contributions our fathers have made in our lives. But could you put a price to a father's contribution to the family?

While some may say that fathers are priceless, Insure.com has a definite number value for this question. The number, according to the site, is $23,344 a year.

This annual value, called the Father's Day Index, measures everything a dad does at home, from squashing spiders to grilling burgers.

To get the value, Insure.com takes the average hourly wage of an activity, and calculates how much someone would get paid for the activity if he did that task for a year. For example, the average hourly wage for a taxi driver is about $14.30, and an average dad spends 478 hours per year driving kids and family around. That makes the annual dad value for driving $6,692.40.

Other tasks accounted for by this number include helping with homework, mowing the lawn, fixing broken things, and moving furniture.

Once all the tasks (13 total) add up, the number $23,344 results.

A good news, according to the site, is that dad's value has gone up from the year before. Last year, it was $20,248.
