FBI Meets Plane At Newark After Passenger Claims Poisoning

NEWARK, N.J. -

The FBI met an incoming United Airlines flight at Newark Liberty International Airport after reports a passenger claimed everyone onboard had been poisoned.

The subject has been taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for evaluation, according to the FBI.

The Center for Disease Control has also cleared the plane.

There was no indication that any passengers had actually been poisoned, an FBI spokesman said. The passenger stood up and made the statement several hours ago and a decision was made by the crew to continue on toNewark.

A United Airlines spokeswoman says the crew followed procedures and the flight continued as scheduled.

United Airlines Flight 116 from Hong Kong was scheduled to land at 2 p.m. but touched down at 1:37 p.m.

The plane then taxied toward a large gathering of police and Department of Homeland Security vehicles. A rolling staircase was positioned near the plane as agents, port authority police and others prepared to board it, opening the door just before 2 p.m.

Only one ambulance could be seen meeting the plane. At least three buses responded to transport other passengers.
