CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Kevin Anderson, the man who allegedly used a Gold Coast woman as a sex slave, took the stand in his own defense Monday.

According to his ex-wife, Kimberly O'Brien, Anderson wined and dined her on trips to Aspen, New York, Montreal, Atlanta and Chicago, and showered her with expensive gifts, before their marriage in May 2005.

Then, on their honeymoon, she claims, after she agreed to be blindfolded, he bound and gagged her, whipped her, and sexually assaulted her.

Anderson was asked on the witness stand what characteristics he was looking for when he first met O'Brien. His answer? Someone who was sexy, classy, a good communicator, and fun to be with.

He repeatedly claimed a lack of memory regarding the early details of their relationship, but he did admit that for several months after they met that he never told O'Brien that he was already married.

When he finally gave her what he called a "promise ring" to cement their relationship, he says she turned it down, because, she told him, "It wasn't big enough," only two karats.

He also said he encouraged her to get an advanced degree in interior design because he wanted her, "to get out of the business that she was in." He didn't say it, but in pretrial records, he claims she was a call girl, which was something the jury won't be allowed to hear.

While Anderson was testifying, Kimberly O'Brien stared straight ahead or looked at her attorneys, never once looking at Anderson on the witness stand. He'll be back on the stand Tuesday.
