According to officials from NJ Fish & Wildlife, approximately 500 carp were found dead this morning.
The fish floated to the shore and surface of Hirsch Lake, which is sometimes referred to as Runnemede Lake.
At this point in the investigation, biologists think the fish were killed because of a disease specific to this type of fish.
Other fish (trout, bass) in the lake were not impacted. A biologist collected a sample fish, which will be sent to a lab to test the exact cause.
