Neighbor rescues woman after crash through wall into pool

The driver of a pickup truck crashed her vehicle through the wall of a valley home and right into a pool Saturday morning.

It happened in the area of Northern and 39th Avenues.

The woman behind the wheel expected to be okay thanks to a fast acting neighbor.

"Loud screeches, tires and then seeing bricks fly over my neighbors fence, and I just knew I had to get over there," said U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Chance Stahl.

Stahl says it was exactly 3 a.m. when he heard the commotion next door.

He drove around the block only to find that a pickup truck had driven through his neighbor's wall and into the pool.

The driver, according to Stahl, appeared trapped.

"Her head was going under water, actually stuck there, her arm was stuck through the windshield and she was stuck in the passenger side of the vehicle," said Stahl.

"I couldn't believe she made it this far. I didn't even think it was going to be like this. I expected to see a wall with a little bit of damage," said Josh Hendricks, new homeowner.

The new owners are set to close Monday.

They're relieved the house was empty at the time of the crash and that innocent bystanders weren't hurt by flying debris.

They're also hopeful what happened won't be repeated.

"I did think that I think that this is something that is just very rare. It doesn't happen all the time," said Jelana Staten, new homeowner.

Skid marks on Northern Avenue indicate the driver may have been heading westbound and that she may have applied the brakes in order to keep from going through the wall.

"It was just going down so fast, I mean the roof maybe had about an inch or two," said Stahl.

Stahl, who is a trained combat medic, says the truck landed in the deep end and was submerged under water by the time he got the woman out.

Firefighters arrived moments later and rushed her to a local hospital.

Stahl tells us he responded to another accident in the same intersection in July 2012 and tried to help free a pregnant woman out of a crushed car.

The cause of Saturday morning's accident remains under investigation.
