Man suffers from rare eye disease

Posted: Updated:

Imagine having problems with your vision and learning glasses won't help. That's what happened to one metro Atlanta man who is struggling with a rare eye disease.

David Gama says that the most frightening part of his condition is how suddenly everything changed. The just six months ago the 32-year-old graphic designer had 20/20 vision. A few doctors and a cornea specialist later and they came to the devastating diagnosis of Keratoconus,

Gama says that a cornea transplant is an option, but that means he will need a donor and his body may end up rejecting it. He instead wants to undergo a procedure that he believes will stop the progression and restore proper vision.

The only problem is that the treatments are not yet approved by the FDA, so insurance considers it to be experimental and won't cover the cost of it.

His wife Jenelle stepped up to start fundraising efforts. The "HelpDaveRaise" Fund already has more than a thousand dollars in donations. In exchange, Gama has pledged to help contributors with website, graphic design and recordings once he recovers.
