Storms bring down trees in metro area

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. -

Some quick-moving thunderstorms brought down trees in the metro Atlanta area on Thursday.

A pop-up storm knocked a pine tree onto Jeannie Groom's home in Peachtree City. Luckily, no one was home when the tree fell into groom's granddaughter's room.

Groom said she's had 45 pine trees removed from her property because she was worried about something like this happening.

"I don't trust them. They get so tall with the storms we get around here," Groom said. "Lightening loves pine trees, I don't, but lightening does, and it take them out."

A couple of streets away, a tree fell on the garage at another home.

Over in Griffin, a tree came down on Elaine Middlebrook's car.

Neighbors say the storm stopped as quickly as it started – just a few minutes long, but long enough to do damage.

"I'm lucky because we're OK, you know that's the main thing but don't look for me to hug any pine trees anytime soon," Groom said.

FOX 5 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist Ken Cook says more showers could be on the way Friday.
