Dry-Cleaners Launching Deliveries By Drone In Manayunk

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Up in the sky, it's a bird, it's a plane.

No, it's your dry-cleaning.

A local dry-cleaning company is using new technologies to soar over the competition, FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reported.

Eyes are watching the sky over Philadelphia's Manayunk section these days. Call it the newest way to get your dry cleaning right to your doorstep.

It's the brain child of the people at Manayunk Cleaners. Co-owner harry says it's a high-flying way to stand out and change the game.

Similar to a Domino's Pizza project, Manayunk Cleaners says they'll randomly pick a customer by computer every month to have their clothes shipped by air.

The drone comes to your house, makes noise, you open up the door, you take it and that's it.

The fly guy is Joe Munoz behind the controls.

"We'll probably come to your place and then fly to your house maybe a block or two away. Because the idea is to give you a little bit of an event," he said.

Many people were surprised by what they saw while walking down Main Street but like the idea. Even kids find it uplifting.

Manayunk Cleaners will launch it next month.

The drone can carry a couple pounds of clothes and has a range of a few thousand feet. It can even fly as high as 400 feet before interfering with air space regulation, Kinchen reported.
