First rain of the 2013 monsoon falls in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. -

Here's a sight that we haven't seen around the valley in quite some time -- puddles on the streets after some rain showers Friday.

Raindrops hit the camera lens on SkyFox as part of the valley got their first rain of the monsoon season.

It wasn't a lot, but it was enough to leave behind puddles on the streets in this Mesa neighborhood.

"You could see it on the street you know just bouncing off the street and bouncing up, it was a lot of rain just really quick and then it was over," says Mike Hermann.

"It started out slow, but then it got a little heavy - and then it petered out," says Chuck Deforest.

Dan McGee was working on his motorcycle in his garage and was pretty surprised when the rain started coming down.

"It was about 20 minutes, not a whole lot but it was. Obviously we haven't had anything this year and this is the first bit we got," says McGee.

More of a light shower than a downpour for sure, but it was enough to cool things down a bit today.

"Yeah, big difference. I mean feel it right now, it's like 90 degrees. This is awesome."

"Temperature dropped a bunch. It was good... Now it's just humid and nasty," says Hermann.

Most people out here though, like Sherry Maxwell, were enjoying the quick showers and overcast skies. A bit of relief from last week's searing heat.

"Yes, it's a change from the weather, it's a change from the sun," says Maxwell.

For the rest of the valley, it was cloudy, and humidity was on its way up.
