PHILADELPHIA -
"I thought my life was in jeopardy."

Rodrigo Ticzon says he was simply trying to defend himself and fighting to survive when a suspect pulled out what he thought was a gun and announced a robbery.

"He started pushing me back slowly and then he told me give all the money in the register. I was going to give it to him until I felt like my life was being threatened," Ticzon told Fox 29.

Ticzon spoke exclusively with Fox 29 about his hand to hand battle last week with the suspect during an attempted robbery at a Crickett mobile phone store on North 22nd Street. It was all caught on tape by the store's surveillance camera.

"Everyone says your life flashes through your eyes and I thought I was gonna get shot or stabbed, everything flashed," he explained.

"He fights for his life all the way outside the door," said Lt. George McClay of Northwest Detectives.

The 26 yr. old store employee didn't back down and slugged it out with the suspect after he realized no one was coming to his aid.

"No one came in and I just forced him out the store," Ticzon said.

Ticzon described how he fought with the suspect all the way through the store hoping he would escape with his life.

"I was literally trying to protect my self that's why I like held his arm where he was holding the weapon. That pretty much was my first instinct. Don't let him stab me or shoot me," he said.

Police say while they don't recommend store employees fight off potentially armed suspects like Ticzon did, they give him a lot of credit for not backing down.

"The guy's courageous," McClay said. "You gotta give him credit. He's fighting, the good fight."

"I didn't know if it was a real gun or a real knife, at the same time I just didn't want to get hurt that day," he said.

Police say the weapon, which was partially concealed in a bag, turned out the be fake. If you want another look at the suspect go to our website, Myfoxphilly.com. If you recognize him please call Northwest Detectives or the city police tip line.

Police recovered the suspect's worn out Eagles hat and another piece of evidence they believe could lead to an arrest if they can retrieve DNA from either item.
