Let it Rip: The issue of race

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) -

As the closing arguments take place in the George Zimmerman trial, at the heart of the prosecution's argument is that racial profiling of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was the root of the cause of his death.

In closing arguments, prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda told jurors in Sanford, Fla., "A teenager is dead. He is dead through no fault of his own." He said Martin was killed "because a man made assumptions" -- and "because his assumptions were wrong."

Paula Deen's use of the N-word has cost her a show on the Food Network and a number of paid sponsorships but it also ignited conversations about racism across the country.  Is she being treated too harshly?

Last week, results of a new poll by Rasmussen Reports says more Americans view blacks as racists than whites or Hispanics.

Consider the source: FROM RASMUSSEN: Thirty-seven percent (37%) of American Adults think most black Americans are racist, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Just 15% consider most white Americans racist, while 18% say the same of most Hispanic Americans. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
