People living and working in Downtown Jersey City are advised to boil their water for most use and consumption following a water main break.
United Water officials say the boil water advisory affects the downtown section of Jersey City from the Hoboken border to Grand Street and from Interstate 78 to the waterfront. The Newport area is not included in the advisory.
Customers should boil their tap water for at least one minute before: drinking, cooking, baking, making ice cubes, washing dishes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets or other consumption.
Water does not have to be boiled for showering or washing clothes.
The advisory is in effect until further notice.
