Atlanta, NFL group team up to host football camp

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - The City of Atlanta and the NFL Retired Players Association are teaming up to host the sixth-annual Jim Mitchell Football and Cheerleading Camp.

City officials say the camp is being hosted at the Ben Hill Recreation Center Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is meant to honor former Atlanta Falcon and recreation center coach Jim Mitchell.

Mitchell played for the Falcons for 11 seasons and died in 2007. He served as a volunteer coach at the Ben Hill and West Manor recreation centers.

Officials say registration for the camp opens at 9 a.m., and parents must be on hand to sign a waiver form.

The camp serves between 250 and 300 children over the age of 5 each year.
