NAACP Convention Addresses Zimmerman Ruling

The shooting of Trayvon Martin is on the minds of many at the NAACP convention in Orlando, Florida.

Martin died nearly 30 miles away in Sanford, at the hands of George Zimmerman who was acquitted of second degree murder on Saturday.

"He is murdered and then the victim of a murder is accused of provoking his murder. It's absurd," says Jesse Jackson.

Civil rights leaders also spoke out against the state's controversial self-defense legislation known as "stand your ground."

They also pressured the Department of Justice to investigate federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman.

"We can not have sons and daughters lives on the line for anybody that wants to pursue them, follow them and kill them and say, its in self defense," says Reverend Al Sharpton.

Members of the Congressional Black Caucus say that many feel the judicial system is quote, "not fair."

"We do know that Mr. Martin's civil rights have been violated, " says Representative Corrine Brown.

The DOJ is investigating whether Zimmerman violated Martin's civil rights and is now soliciting tips in its probe. A move some say is unusual.

"The FBI has already investigated it, they haven't found any evidence that would support bringing hate crime charges," says Tom Dupree of FOX News Channel.

"Justice For Trayvon" rallies are planned in 100 cities this weekend.

The gatherings will be held at federal court buildings at noon on Saturday.
