Rainy days impacting local businesses

Posted: Updated:
MARIETTA, Ga. -

The huge amounts of rain we've gotten this summer has had a huge impact on metro Atlanta businesses. For some, the rain has been a blessing, but for others, it's been a curse.

Tom DiGregorio said the showers have helped his business, AquaGuard Basement Systems.

"We're used to this, but not with the volume that we're getting now. Everybody in our industry is extremely busy," DiGregorio said.

Numerous customers are making appointments to have their homes treated for water damage.

"I would say we are definitely 75 to as much as 100 percent busier than we might otherwise be if it was normal rainfall or below," DiGregorio said.

Pete Nani, the operations director of a car wash on South Cobb Parkway in Marietta, said that the rain has caused a drop in business. He says he needs at least a week of sunshine for business to pick up to its normal level. Lately, he said his employees have spent more time maintaining the property than washing cars.

"Well, we clean and paint our building just as many times as we possibly can to give those guys the hours we can, but at some point and time you just can't," said Nani.

Officials at Lake Lanier Islands Resort also say they've seen a drop in visitors because of this summer's heavy rain, but they've able to supplement the decreased numbers by booking corporate meetings and business travelers.
