DETROIT (WJBK) -

Mike Dugeon, a 30-year-old barber from the west side, has filed his paperwork to be a write-in candidate for mayor of Detroit.

This could complicate things for 54-year-old Mike Duggan, the former CEO of the Detroit Medical Center, who was kicked off the ballot last month over a residency dispute.

Duggan, who is now forced to wage a costly, long shot write-in campaign, will now have to fight with Dugeon over misspelled votes, such as 'Dugen,' Doogan,' 'Dugan' and 'Diggler.'

Just a few hundred votes could be the difference in next month's primary for Duggan, who needs to finish at least second to appear on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.

There's no disputing Dugeon's residency credentials, a graduate of Cooley High School and barber college. Dugeon has never left Detroit.

His platform consists of freeway Subway sandwiches, chips and soda pop for every citizen.

His reason for wanting to be the irrelevant mayor of a bankrupt town? To bring attention to the plight of the neighborhood.

FOX 2's Charlie LeDuff interviews Dugeon tonight during FOX 2 News beginning at 5.

Detroit police are doing better because less money is being paid to creditors and more is being invested in police services. Go on an exclusive ride to see how the fight on crime is getting new support.
Detroit is a godforsaken place.  Everyone knows that.  Detroit is a mess, no doubt. Here's the thing: some of the factors that put Detroit $18 billion in debt could be factors in your town. Cities all over the country are struggling to pay for health care and retiree pensions. They're seeing revenues from property taxes and sales taxes drop as they try to pay for expensive projects that were approved before the recession.
