Local Minister And Counselor Charged With Sexual Assault On A Teenage Girl

Posted: Updated:

Tucked away on this quiet tree-lined street in Hainesport is a group home for teenage girls. This is where police say 32-year-old Rashaun Davis, a local youth minister,  met a 16-year-old girl he's now accused of sexually assaulting.

"I was shocked about it because you never think about anything happening on your own street," neighbor Alex Marian, a retired school teacher, told Fox 29.

"It's kind of scary. There's a lot of young kids on this street. It's definitely a shame. It's a surprise. He always seemed nice," said Jaime Lee, a high school teacher who lives on Davis' block.

Neighbors on Davis' street in Burlington Township were stunned to hear that the local minister had been arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

"What we'll do is see how it plays out," Marian said. "It's one girl you said, right now, so you know, you never know."

Davis lives here with his wife and two children. He worked as a part time residential counselor for Twin Oaks Community Services in Westhampton. He's also a youth pastor at the Kingdom Church that meets here at the Burlington Middle School on Sundays.

"It would appear that he does do a lot of good things and that is true. We have a right to be tried in a court of law, so I guess his time will come," Lee said.

While some neighbors defended Davis, calling him a friendly young man who always says hello, Prosecutors are openly urging anyone else who may have been victimized by Davis to come forward.

"I hope that all girls that would be involved in such a situation would speak up so in a case where it's true, that they wouldn't have this happen to them," Lee added.

"He's innocent til proven guilty," Marian said.

Davis is being held on $250,000 bail in the Burlington County Detention Center in Mount Holly. A spokesman for Twin Oaks Community Services says Davis is no longer employed there. Kingdom Church is expected to release a statement on Davis' arrest sometime today.
