A crane operator was able to escape severe injury after his machine tipped over at a St. Clair Shores marina.

The accident happed at the Island Harbor Marina along Jefferson Ave., just north of 9 Mile Road Friday morning.

St Clair Shores Fire Department Battalion Chief Walt Jenuwine says the crane tipped while it was transferring a heavy piece of machinery from a truck onto a boat. The wheels stayed on land, but the top was partially submerged in a Lake St. Clair canal.

Police say a woman ended up in the water got to shore on her own and rescue crews got the man out of the crane's cab.
