NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

An Indian rhinoceros calf that was born at the Bronx Zoo in April is now on display to the public, according to the Wildlife Conservation Society.

The rhino, also known as a greater one-horned rhinoceros, weighed 120 pounds at birth and is expected to swell to 4,000 pounds in adulthood, WCS said.

Visitors can see the calf from Wild Asia monorail, but exhibit times are intermittent and vary day-to-day, WCS said.

She is the 13th Indian rhino born at the Bronx Zoo since 1986. She is one of 56 Indian rhinos living in Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoos in North America.

She is part of a cooperative breeding program among the zoos "to maintain genetic diversity in zoo populations of threatened and endangered species," according to WCS.

Rhinos are illegally hunted for their horns. The International Union for Conservation of Nature designates Indian rhinos as "vulnerable," while the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service calls them "endangered."

A NYPD plan intended to better connect with the community seems to have backfired a bit. The police department asked its twitter followers to share pictures of themselves with New York City police officers using the hashtag "myNYPD." Some did share nice pictures, but others not so much. Some of the first pictures posted showed regular citizens standing with very friendly looking police officers.
