Pro-marijuana ad planned for NASCAR audience pulled
By FOX 10 News Staff
It's a pretty controversial ad. The plan was to air it during this weekend's NASCAR race on the big Jumbotron, but it's gone viral online beforehand.
It looks a lot like a beer commercial. But this actually is a spot promoting the legalization of marijuana.
Ad's audio: "If you're an adult who enjoys a good beer there's a similar product you might want to know about -- one without all the calories and serious health problems -- less toxic so it doesn't cause hangovers overdose deaths and it's not linked to violence or reckless behavior. Marijuana less harmful than alcohol and time to treat it that way. For more information visit marijuanaissafer.org."
The "Marijuana Policy Project" planned to air the ad a dozen times over the weekend. That's the group pushing for pot to be legalized.
The company that runs the Jumbotron reportedly yanked the ads under pressure from anti-drug groups.
