The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released a crime alert after anti-gay messages were scrawled on the siding of a Maple Grove church that's already seen three similar acts of vandalism this summer.
Maple Grove police responded to a vandalism report at Pilgrims United Church of Christ on 8801 Rice Lake Road at 9:48 a.m. on Sunday after several eggs were allegedly thrown at the front door and "messages referencing homosexuality" were written on the outside of the building.
Similar incidents occurred at the church on June 30 and June 2 of this year. The moderator for the church told FOX 9 News the vandalism coincided with marriage equality milestones in the state.
Police installed a camera at the church because they expected the vandal to return. They got the evidence they were looking for when video surveillance captured images of a man in a wheelchair throwing a carton of eggs at the doors on July 28 at about 6:30 a.m.
The Maple Grove Police Department is investigating the incidents as "bias-motivated crime based on sexual orientation."
