Massive Explosions Rock Central Fla. Propane Gas Plant

PHILADELPHIA -

Down South, all of the workers at a propane plant in Florida have been accounted for after massive explosions rocked the facility.

At least seven people were injured during the explosions at the Blue Rhino propane plant in Tavares, about 30 miles northwest of Orlando, late Monday night.

Officials say 26 people had been working on the overnight shift when the explosions occurred.

People living nearby reported hearing thousands of propane tanks continue to explode every couple of minutes.

"People from very far away -- in towns 6, 7, 8, 10 miles from here -- were reporting feeling their homes shaking," said Lake County Sheriff's spokesman John Herrell. "I live in Eustis, I could see the sky, and I could hear it. It's very very dramatic. It's very surreal."

Residents within a one-mile radius of the plant are being evacuated.

Officials say the plant usually has 53,000 20-pound propane tanks often used for barbecue grills.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
