Teen police say robbed, carjacked women he met online arrested

DETROIT (WJBK) -

Deputies in Wayne County arrested a 16-year-old Tuesday wanted on armed robbery and assault and battery charges at a bus stop on Grand River near Wyoming.

Investigators said he arranged face-to-face meetings with women he met on Facebook and Instagram, then robbed and carjacked them.

Lachae Patterson noticed the teen moments before he was arrested, but had no clue what was coming next.

"It was kind of surprising, and it was kind of scary at the same time because we didn't know what was going on," she said.

Fugitive locator Paul Clay said the arrest was part of a larger sweep. Authorities are after some 40 suspects with outstanding warrants.

"There are a lot of guys out here that we're trying to get off the streets that are wanted for numerous offenses," he said.

As for the teen cuffed on Tuesday, people that live and work in the area were happy that one less suspected thug is off the streets.

We are not identifying the teen until he is officially charged.
