BlackStar Film Festival Set To Open In Philadelphia

Posted: Updated:

This morning, Good Day's Mike and Sheinelle interviewed Maori Karmael Holmes, Founder & Artistic Director of the BlackStar Film Festival.

According to the festival's website, "The BlackStar Film Festival is a celebration of cinema focused on work by and about people of African descent in a global context. BlackStar highlights films that are often overlooked from emerging, established, and mid-career directors, writers and producers working in narrative, documentary, experimental and music video filmmaking."

And...what a celebration it will be!

The festival runs August 1 - August 4th, culminating with a huge Closing Night Awards Ceremony.  Spike Lee is also going to attend the festivities.

Howard University's Film Program will receive special honors.

Over 75 films, short films and music videos will be featured at multiple venues.
