The Philadelphia Zoo celebrated the sixth birthday of its male Red River Hog, named Hamilton.
Since 2012, the zoo has had three Red River Hogs. Hamilton is the youngest of the three.
Red River Hogs are the smallest wild pig species in Africa. They're known for the bright red coats and distinctive white markings across the coats. In the wild, they eat grass, berries, insects and carrion. At the zoo, they enjoy special biscuits that are made of root vegetables and hay.
We're getting rain well ahead of our cold front. Expect to need that umbrella on and off all day and tonight, too. A bit messy, unfortunately, for First Friday activities.
With the blast of cold air that follows, we'll probably have a dry day on Saturday, and the chance of a Sunday wintry mix into the afternoon and evening. A light coating could occur for some before a changeover to rain. Stay tuned!
