Women file lawsuit against DeKalb Co. Commissioner, police

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A night spent at a local bar a year ago has led to a lawsuit against a DeKalb County commissioner and the DeKalb Police Department.

The lawsuit revolves around what happened and what two women claim shouldn't have happened with DeKalb County Commissioner Stan Watson and the DeKalb County police at the Tanqueray Lounge last summer.

The FOX 5 I-Team was the first to show you how police caught the popular and longtime commissioner at a bar, drinking and then driving.  But, there was no arrest.

An internal affairs investigation found five officers felt Watson either could have or should have been arrested.  All officers were cleared of any wrongdoing.

Following the internal investigation, DeKalb County Solicitor Sherry Boston asked for a special prosecutor outside of DeKalb County to review the evidence.

Chuck Spahos determined there wasn't enough evidence for a DUI arrest.

Now Zarina Ali and Sheneeka Bradhser have filed suit against Commissioner Watson, the Tanqueray Lounge owner and the DeKalb police.

The women allege they were subjected to "unlawful searches" by police because Watson "falsely accused (them) of stealing his wallet."

Watson told FOX 5's Dale Russell over the phone that the suit is "frivolous" and last year's news and he is "sick of stupid stuff like this."

A DeKalb County spokesman says they are not commenting on an ongoing lawsuit.  The owner of Tanqueray Lounge did not return our calls.

FOX 5 Senior I-team reporter Dale Russell, who broke this story, has the latest.

Oh, that awful feeling when you think your credit or debit card is safely tucked into your wallet, but it's still shopping. Somebody, somewhere has got your card number and is using it. What if you could turn off that card?

Here's the sure fire way to stay on budget at the grocery store: Plan your menu in advance, make a list then stick to it. So how is it that you're still spending more than you should and ending up with less than you need? Because too many of us shop at the wrong time.
