Bears fans may only bring wristlets, clear bags to Soldier Field

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Bears fans: Soldier Field security will enforce enhanced public safety policies the next time you come to the stadium for a game. The NFL released the guidelines this week. Here's what you need to know.

The Bears play San Diego this Thursday at home, and fans should plan to travel light as they head into Soldier Field.

You can't bring much more than what you can fit in your pockets. If you do need to bring a bag, it should be a clear, vinyl or plastic bag such as a gallon-size freezer bag.

Women can carry a clutch bag, or wristlet about the size of an adult hand. No backpacks, fanny packs, seat cushions or computer bags will be allowed.

Except for medical necessities, there will be no exceptions and no storage facilities at the stadium.

In recent years, the Bears have utilized pat downs and metal detectors, but there were delays and confusion that led to fan frustration and complaints.

This year, the NFL wants guests to know the rules ahead of time for safety and convenience.

If a fan brings a prohibited item, it'll be up to the fan to get rid of it before coming back for entry.

The enhanced security guidelines came out after the Boston Marathon attacks in April. But the NFL said security improvements were underway before the incident.

Given their history, last season sure was an odd one for the Chicago Bears. Just as they finally managed to get things right on offense, their defense pulled off quite a disappearing act. Well, it's back. At least, the Bears think it's back.
