Guns, ammo stolen from Boy Scouts

Posted: Updated:

LOCKPORT, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say guns and ammunition worth several thousand dollars have been stolen from a western New York Boy Scout organization's storage building.

Leaders of the Iroquois Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America tell local media outlets that rifles, shotguns and ammo valued at about $4,000 were stolen earlier this month from the group's storage facility in Lockport in Niagara County.

Officials say the local Boy Scouts use the weapons to learn firearms safety and marksmanship at their summer camp.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft.

A state agency is suggesting summer shutdowns at the Indian Point nuclear power plant in the New York suburbs. The idea is to protect migrating and spawning fish who might otherwise get sucked into the plant. Indian Point takes 2.5 billion gallons a day from the Hudson River to make steam and cool its two reactors.
