Fans Frustrated After Manuel's Firing, Shutout Loss To Dodgers

Posted: Updated:

It's the end of an era for another legendary Philly sports figure.

Charlie Manuel won a World Series and brought the team to the post season five straight years. But on Friday he was out as the team's manager.

Manuel says he led the team Wednesday knowing the game would be his last.

So, on Friday we saw him in street clothes, shaking hands with the Phillies front office staff.

His next move is undetermined.

General Manager Ruben Amaro said he decided over the last couple of weeks that Manuel's contact wouldn't be renewed after this year.

But, with the way this team played recently, the clock on Manuel's future sped up.

The Phillies have been a disaster since the all-star break. How about 5-19? During the Phillies' recent 1-5 road trip, an emotional Amaro said he knew the time was now.

Manuel has been offered a job within the organization, but hasn't accepted it yet. The 69-year-old says he still has two to three years of managing left in him.

Hundreds of our Facebook fans are talking about Manuel's departure. Many are sad to see him go.

Joe writes, "He was a great skipper. Thanks for the memories."

And Susan writes, "You brought so much joy to Phillies fans. We will miss ya Charlie. All I can say is thank you!!!"

You can leave your messages for the skipper on our Facebook page.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen was live at the ballpark with some frustrated fans.

Between Manuel's firing and the Phils losing Friday night, it was a pretty sad day for fans.
