14 suspects face charges, 30 face deportation after car wash raids

Federal agents said they spent months investigating Danny's Family Car Wash. Undercover agents even had their cars washed by the very people they arrested. Dozens of the people arrested were released within hours, but more than a dozens face serious criminal charges.

Danny's Family Car Wash in Phoenix was back open Sunday after the massive raid on the valley chain on Saturday.

Officials say Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents rounded up 223 people at 16 locations.

"I just saw-- I was getting coffee walking out and I just saw local law enforcement rolling up pretty quick," said Tori Burris.

The vast majority of those detained, 179 people, have been let go.

The agency said it was not targeting undocumented workers with no criminal background.

"This was not an enforcement of targeting illegal immigration or illegal immigrants. It was a criminal investigation," said Barbara Gonzalez with ICE Homeland Security Investigations.

The investigation into fraud, identity theft and financial violations netted 14 arrests. Four US citizens and 10 Mexican nationals face criminal charges.

"It's a major crime, a very serious crime," said Dick Arthur.

A Danny's Family Car Wash manager tells FOX 10 they're cooperating with federal investigators.

"As everyone here knows we target employers, employers that aren't playing by the rules. We don't target the employees, we're targeting the companies that are not playing by the rules," said Gonzalez.

Still, 30 people arrested in the raid could face deportation based on their past criminal record or immigration violations.

Some customers out on Sunday were upset by the way agents rounded up workers.

"I think it's horrendous. We need a pathway to citizenship and we need to value them as citizens of our community," said Tatianna Massaro.

The US Attorney's Office has not released the court documents detailing who was arrested and why.

Those documents are expected to be made public Monday.
