NEW YORK (AP) - The NYPD says a former city councilman's car was set on fire in his driveway in an apparent random arson attack.

Eric Gioia, who served three terms from 2002 to 2009, told the New York Post that he woke to a loud thump early Sunday morning and saw his Mercury Mariner in flames outside his Queens home.

Police say there's "no specific evidence" that Gioia's car was targeted.

They say a man was caught on a surveillance camera setting a fire to a nearby trash bin before setting the SUV ablaze.

New York City women are tired of hearing vile things yelled at them as they walk down the street. Many women are going public about street harassment and catcalling. Some even post picture of their offenders on social media. Founded in 2005, Hollaback! is an anti-harassment organization giving women a platform to do just that.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that school start no earlier than 8:30 a.m. for middle and high school students.  This recommendation is based on biology.  Pediatricians say adolescents can have trouble falling asleep before 11 p.m.  Therefore in order for teens to get a full eight hours of sleep the school day should start later.

Alec Baldwin took on a new role at the U.S. Open - the actor played a star athlete, snagging a stray ball that flew into the stands. Baldwin was sitting in the front row behind the baseline Monday night when an out-of-bounds shot from Maria Kirilenko sailed over Maria Sharapova and bounced into the seats. He flawlessly fielded the ball on one hop.
