Family Says Murdered Somerton Teenager "Was A Fun Loving Guy"

PHILADELPHIA -
"He was a fun loving guy. He loved to have fun. He laughed all the time."

That's how relatives and friends described 19 year old murder victim Daquan Crump. They say he was a good kid. He graduated from George Washington High School, just got a job at a local Wendy's and lived nearby with his family. No one could figure out who would want to kill him.

"I don't have the slightest idea. I don't have the slightest idea," his grandmother Riva Moore told Fox 29.

Daquan's bullet riddled body was found Monday morning around 7 a.m. at a construction site half a mile from his family's home. Workers arriving at the demolition site made the gruesome discovery and called police.

"It does not appear that it was a robbery," said Homicide Captain James Clark at an afternoon news conference. "The only thing I can tell you right now, it appears that it was very personal and again very vicious."

Daquan's family was stunned by the news of his murder. No one could make sense of it .

"He loved his family. He was a family oriented child," Moore said. "Like I said, he was a typical 19 year old."

Homicide detectives say Daquan hadn't been seen since Saturday night, when he got off work around 11. It did not appear there were any recent problems with anyone that would have lead to his death. But Captain Clark says whoever pulled the trigger meant business.

"He was shot multiple times, anywhere from 10 to 12 times, all in the face and head area. It was a very very brutal murder," Captain Clark explained.

Police did recover Crump's back pack at the crime scene with his Wendy's uniform shirt inside.

Detectives believe he was murdered at the demolition site between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. They were scouring the area for surveillance video that might help their investigation.

Sources say there may have been some threats made against the victim in the days before his murder.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Unit (215-592-5860 or 215-592-5859).
