Amy Brenneman: My Parents Are My Role Models

Posted: Updated:

"Rapture, Blister, Burn" is a play that focuses on three generations of women and their different outlooks on life. Amy Brenneman stopped by before opening night at the Geffen Playhouse to talk about why it's become so talked about among women and men. "I relate to all these characters...and playing it for audiences is so wonderful because at every single moment all five of the characters says something where the audience says like 'they're right'".

The women talk about what it means to be a career woman, a housewife, and a mother. It also takes a sharp look at how women, and men, find happiness and conquer disappointment.

In reality, Amy is a happily married mother of two...and she talks about how her mom and dad's love made history at Harvard Law. They became the first ever married couple to go there together.

"They got married after their first year so they had 2 more years as a married couple...she went there to find a husband and she did!"

Fun Facts About Amy Brenneman:

  • She graduated from Harvard University, where she majored in comparative religion, in 1987. While at Harvard, she co-founded Cornerstone Theatre Company, with which she traveled for several years after graduation.
  • In her first major television role, Brenneman played mob-connected uniformed officer Janice Licalsi on the police drama NYPD Blue.
  • In 1999, Brenneman became creator and executive producer of the television series Judging Amy, in which she played the title character.
