Suspicious security car pulled over in Hazel Park

Posted: Updated:
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (myFOXDetroit.com) -

It all started when an officer was driving on 8 Mile, and a vehicle swerved into his lane. The officer took a closer look at the car, and noticed the 2000 white Crown Victoria looked very similar to an officer's car, but without the proper plates. The car was pulled over, and police were surprised by what they found next.

Hazel Park officers found the following inside the vehicle:
 - working siren
 - working white and yellow strobe lights
 - radio
 - loaded 9 mm semi automatic hand gun
 - security badges
 - security clothing
 - lockout equipment for vehicles

The car belongs to Vincent Coleman. Coleman tells police he hires himself out as a security officer, which officers tell Fox 2 makes perfect sense for the types of items that were found in his car.

Coleman, however, was still arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and for not having a valid driver's license. Police tell us his license hasn't been current since 2003.

Police are still investigating the possibility of officer impersonation. They are asking if you've had any questionable contact with Coleman to give them a call. The number for Hazel Park PD is 248-542-6161.

Chief Martin Barner tells Fox 2 he is aware of recent reports of officer impersonation, not necessarily in Hazel Park though. He says this conduct can sometimes lead to robbery or inappropriate sexual conduct, so you can never be too cautious when being pulled over.

Chief Barner adds, "If someone's driving and believe they are being pulled over by a fake police officer, or someone impersonating a police officer, call 911. The transfer will go to the local jurisdiction that you are driving in, and they'll be able to tell you that if that is one of their officers or not."
